Panquecas – Crepe Pancakes Specialty Cafe With Kopi O And Apam Balik Crepes, At Telok Ayer

“Pancakes for the people, Steaks for the people”, the folks behind Picanhas at Club Street has opened their newest crepe pancakes concept right next door.

“Panquecas” in Portugese means “pancakes”, and the Muslim-owned cafe offers this signature item in both sweet and savoury options.

The 24 seater space is simply equipped with wooden furniture pieces with an open-concept kitchen to witness the food and drinks preparation.

Instead of the thicker pancake slices that we are familiar with, the pancakes here are made of thin crepe-like layers, folded into various shapes and sizes.

Only 2 savoury pancakes are available, namely the Picanha Roll named after their sister steakhouse next door, and the Panqueca Roll topped with chicken sausage.

If you have a sweet tooth, then good for you as Panquecas offers a total 7 different sweet pancakes topped with various toppings.

Using wheat flour for both their sweet and savoury pancakes, the batter is mixed with the respective flavours to bring out a more wholesome flavour.

Their Classic ($11) is the most affordable on the menu, with toppings such as Creme Pattisiere, Beurre Noisette, Roasted Buckwheat Seeds, Fresh Berries, Compote, Chocolate Dipping Sauce and a single scoop of Ice Cream.

The remaining sweet pancakes are priced at $13 with interesting flavours such as Kopi O, Chocolate Dream, Apple Crumble, Blueberry Earl Grey, Apam Balik and Lemon Yuzu.

All crepe pancakes are freshly made ala minute upon order in their open-concept kitchen, so diners can witness the chefs in action while enjoying the sweet aroma of the pancakes.

My favourite was the Kopi O Pancake ($13), made using coffee infused layers of thin crepes folded intro triangular shapes.

The Kopi O Pancake came drizzled with with both Kaya creme and coffee creme for a nostalgic and familiar taste of breakfast, topped with coffee crumble and Paillete Feuiletine for the the extra crunch.
